Lake Keowee:  General information

Lake Keowee is just 45 minutes west of Greenville, SC and approximately two hours from Atlanta, GA. People come here from all areas to enjoy mountain views, clear blue waters, and peaceful relaxation.  The lake is located near the small town of Seneca, and Clemson University is a few miles down the road.

This beautiful lake was constructed and is privately owned by Duke Power Company in 1971 as part of the Keowee-Toxaway project to generate hydroelectric power.  The lake spans 18, 372 acres, has depths up to 155 feet, averaging 54 feet, and has a approximately 300 miles of shoreline.  Fresh water streams and springs flow from the mountains and eventually find their way to Lake Keowee.

Lake Keowee is great for boating and the fishing is outstanding.  There is an endless selection of bays and channels for boating, exploring, water-skiing, swimming, and camping.  Many  picnic areas exist in public and private parks around the lake.  The lake also features a noticeable and welcome lack of commercialism, leaving you to enjoy the lake and its lovely views without distractions of miniature golf, wax museums, water slides or other tourist attractions.  It is the perfect lake for recreation and vacations, as well as a great place to live.
